The highest mintage figure for the 1/10 oz Proof American Gold Eagle came in its debut year of 1988 when 143,881 coins were sold. Since then, mintage has failed to crack 100,000 in any given year. However, each release since 2012 has shown an upward trend, rising from 20,740 that year to 26,769 in 2015.

On the obverse is the iconic Liberty design created by Augustus Saint-Gaudens in 1907. This image originally appeared on the $20 Gold Double Eagle through 1933, and is considered America’s greatest coin design.
The reverse of the 1/10 oz Proof American Gold Eagle Coin bears an exclusive design to the series created in 1986 by Miley Busiek. This image features a male bald eagle in flight over the nest, which is guarded by a female eagle who keeps a sharp eye on the hatchlings within.
All Proof Gold Eagles are produced by the West Point Mint, and the coins feature a “W” mint mark on the surface as a demarcation of the production facility.
